Digital Interface The digitalinterface on the AD421 consists of just three wires: DATA, CLOCK and LATCH. The interface connects directly to the serial ports of commonly-used microcontrollers without the need for any external glue logic. Data is loaded MSB first into an input shift register on the rising edge of the CLOCK signal and is transferred to the DAC latch on the rising edge of the LATCH signal. The timing diagrams for the serialinterface are shown in Figure l and Figure 2.

ACKNOWLEDGE POLLING: Once the internally-timed write cycle has started and the EEPROM inputs are disabled, acknowledge polling can be initiated. This involves send- ing a start condition followed by the device address word. The read/write bit is representative of the operation desired. Only if the internal write cycle has completed will the EEPROM respond with a zero allowing the read or write sequence to continue.
