The digital window watchdog timer, U5020M, is a CMOS integrated circuit. In applica- tions where safety is critical, it is especially important to monitor the microcontroller. Normal microcontroller operation is indicated by a cyclically transmitted trigger signal, which is received by a window watchdog timer within a defined time window. A missing or a wrong trigger signal causes the watchdog timer to reset the microcon- troller. The lC is tailored for microcontrollers which can work in both full-power and sleep mode. With an additional voltage monitoring (power-on reset and supply voltage drop reset), the U5020M offers a complete monitoring solution for microsystems in automotive and industrial applications.
Output The MAX5166 contains an output buffer for each multi- plexer channel (32 total), so the hold capacitor sees a high-impedance input, reducing the droop rate. While in hold mode, the hold capacitor discharges at a rate of 1mV/sec (typ). The buffer also provides a low output impedance; however, the device contains output resis- tors in series with the buffer output (Figure l) for select- ed output filtering. To provide greater design flexibility, the MAX5166 is available with an RO of 50Q, 500Q, or 1 kQ.
